Melbourne EP Launch

PRESS RELEASE:

A fresh beginning - that's the way Bachelor of Arts are approaching 2010 and the release of their new EP, Wither With Her.

After their 2009 US tour, the band reflected on collective experience. It was a year split between three continents and in which time, a lot of things changed. The result of 10 months of writing is a psychedelic-no-wave return to the EP format. There's a decidedly fuller sounding set of songs than their 2008 Infinite Jest LP. Synth mangled guitars, contact mic'ed bookshelves, circuit bent distortion pedals and three part harmonies all sit somewhere in a world of Afro-beat and GZA influenced rhythmic bursts. Available on Jan 2nd at the Workers Club as a limited edition CD and later in 2010 on 12" vinyl, this will be one of the last chances to catch Bachelor of Arts for several months as the band once again embark on international adventures.

With very special guests Absolute Boys + A Dead Forest Index

FROM US:

Hope you can make it down for the show. 2010 Ahoy!

BOA at the Birmingham Thursday 16th of July

We'll playing the Birmingham this coming Thursday the 16th of July. Hopefully this show will see some new material debuted. This is however fairly dependent on us finding a place to rehearse a few times in the next five days or so. We'll be playing with Sydney's The Nevada Strange as well as one band we always love to play alongside Breaker Morant and Repairs.

Should be a fun night so work your way through the cold this Thursday. It won't disappoint.

Bachelor Of Arts Biography / April 2009

Bachelor of Arts are a three piece noise-rock band from Melbourne, Australia. It's a city perpetually on the move yet with a moody and overcast story to be told, much like the sound of the band. With this grounding, Bill Forshaw (Guitar/Vocals), Angus Tarnawsky (Drums/Vocals) and Kevin Mcdowell (Bass/Vocals) create some of the most startlingly interesting pop music you'll come across. It channels the exploration of the late 70s NYC scene crossed with the shifting rhythms and sense of restraint that the 90s Chicago scene was known for. What Bachelor of Arts create is precise, full of energy and littered with the kind of chaotic elegance that is exciting on a record or witnessed live at a show.

They've toured Australia extensively, covering the country several times over and in March of this year they embarked on a three week tour of the United States. The past two years has seen the group sharing stages with the likes of Japanther (US), These New Puritans (UK), Bakelite (CAN), Die! Die! Die! (NZ), My Disco, Witch Hats, Fabulous Diamonds, Mercy Arms, Tic Toc Tokyo and Ohana in all sorts of venues, galleries and spaces.

This year also sees the international release of their debut album Infinite Jest. Upon it's 2008 limited Australian release, Rip It Up Magazine described the album as "A strong debut...There's all the vocal intensity, angry hooks and antagonistic bass of the punk side and the calculated guitar stabs, complex rhythms and looping noise that are math rock staples...about the same consistency overall that you'd get if you blended experimentalists The Fall with Black Flag."

Captured live to 2" tape by engineer Finn Keane with help from long time friends Sloth and Neil at Head Gap Studios, It's full of life with a gritty sound that underpins the road Bachelor of Arts has travelled.

Be sure to catch the band as they hit the road in support of both Infinite Jest and a special US Tour 7" split record with NYC band Dinowalrus

Hey all -

So this seems like a pretty logical way to organise our thoughts and keep everything together in once place. Pretty soon we'll post up some stories from our recent US tour plus a whole lot of photos, movies and mp3s from our adventures.
